A woman in Morelos drove her vehicle through a group of students gathered to participate in a Christmas parade in Mexico.
Witnesses did not wait for authorities as they prevented the woman from fleeing the site by apprehending her and setting her vehicle on fire.
According to the police report, the incident occurred around 6 pm (local time) on Wednesday, the woman was intoxicated according to the report, which was observed by witnesses and fueled their outrage.
Medical and police units arrived on the scene to provide attention to the children and to detain the person responsible for the accident. The students were sent to different medical centers for evaluation, but according to the authorities’ report and despite the impact of the car, none of the children had serious injuries.
At the moment, the woman is detained while the event is under investigation.
This is not the first time that a similar event occurs in Mexico. According to the Health Service of the State of Morelos, about 24,000 people die each year in car accidents related to alcohol consumption in Mexico.
