Mexico has broken a new record for exporting avocados to the United States for the 2020 Super Bowl event.
Avocado is one of the culinary protagonists during the Super Bowl broadcast – the final of the National Football League (NFL) – one of the most important and most-watched sporting events in the United States.
But that event is also important for avocado producers in Mexico, the world’s leading producer of the fruit known in the Latin American country as ‘green gold’. According to the Association of Producers and Packers Exporters of Avocado of Mexico (APEAM), to meet the demand for this product during the Super Bowl weekend, about 140,000 tons of avocado were sent to the US market.
In 2019, Mexican avocado producers exported 120,000 tons during the Super Bowl period, while in 2018 that figure reached 100,000 tons.
