Six Mexican soldiers died on Sunday after their plane crashed shortly after taking off from an airport in Veracruz, confirmed the Secretary of Defense (Sedena).
The LearJet 45 registration 3912 of the Mexican Air Force crashed after taking flight at the El Lencero terminal, located in the Emiliano Zapata municipality of Veracruz, the Sedena said in a statement.
Sedena’s air accident investigation commission and the Mexican Army and Air Force comptroller will carry out the investigation to determine the possible causes of the crash.
Sedena did not report the identity of the military personnel or the work they were carrying out in the region, although it indicated that their death occurred “in the line of duty.”
“We express our deepest condolences to the families of our comrades in arms,” the institution added in the statement.
