7-year-old girl dies from a stray bullet at her home in Chiapas

7-year-old Marisol was sleeping at her home in San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, over the weekend, when a stray bullet entered through the roof of the house, hitting her in the head.

The mother of the minor, Andrea Hernández, said “something” entered through the roof of her house in San Antonio del Monte on Saturday night and injured her daughter, for which she was rushed to the hospital in San Cristóbal de las Casas.

However, due to the lack of a specialist available at the hospital, the girl could not be treated and died on Sunday afternoon.

The bullet that killed Marisol came from one of the weapons carried by the members of the “motonetos”, a group of people that inhabit the northern part of the town, circulate on motorcycles, carrying short and long weapons, and shoot in the air.

The residents of several towns have complained about the increasingly frequent presence of these groups, who seem not to fear police action and who, in addition, threaten the population.

Andrea Hernández, the mother of the deceased girl, has made an alert call to the authorities and has asked for justice so that the death of little Marisol does not go unpunished.

The motorcycle gangs are responsible for other incidents in the area, without having been investigated by the authorities so far.
